Comments: On routine examination of the cecum during screening colonoscopy, a 76 year-old man is noted to have a small amount of polypoid tissue extruding from the appendiceal orifice. The lesion is submerged in water and a 20 MHz, high-frequency, EUS probe is used for further evaluation. EUS allows for easy sonographic identification of the polyp. The bright white, hyperechoic portions of the colonic wall correspond to the submucosal layer; thus making this polyp a superficial, mucosal-based lesion. The polyp is then grasped with a standard biopsy forceps in order to expose all points of involvement within the appendiceal lumen for complete inspection.
