Comments: This 52 year old woman was referred for screening colonoscopy. Her exam was normal except for this finding. This is Enterobius vermicularis or pinworm and is most frequently seen in young children. Probably the most common parasitic infection in the US, humans are the only host in their life cycle. Eggs laid at the anal verge, are detectable by the "scotch tape". The adult female seen here range from 8-20mm in length. A single dose of Mebendazole 100 mg PO repeated in 1-2 weeks is effective in eradication.
